glass class

Day one is over. I will sure have a couple wierd things to take photos of. These beads are HUGE. HUUUUUUUGE.

The whole point was to make large focals, and play with dots. Larry Brickman is a dot guy, and a big ol’ beads guy. It was really hard to keep up with all that glass on my mandrel, one, cause it’s so much more than I usually use, and two, it’s tanked oxy and that makes for a stronger flame. I use a concentrator, so I got the glass too hot sometimes. When I hook my two concentrators up, it will be more like that.

Larry is awesome, as is Bonnie. I have taken classes with Bonnie before, but not Larry. He rules as an instructor and is an all around nice guy to talk to, as well.

I’m one of the youngest in the class.

I think I did well. But man. Seriously. HUGE BEADS. (this should make Academic Hussy happy, she wanted a big bear and I’m not at that stage yet, but this class sure as hell is helping with that.)

Here is Larry’s website.

Tomorrow, hollow beads more foils, metallics, more HUGE beads!

Yay! Friday! Yay, only 3 more Fridays left that will feel like true work Fridays!

It’s been a week. A whole lot of stress and angst over holiday plans. DLJ and I had it all the way we were happy with, given certain situations and financials, and then it all got put to hell with the best of intentions. I am going to the Bay Area for 36 hours, flying back on Christmas Day. It’s not the trip itself that is what got put to hell, but my decision making abilities about my own actions. It got chosen for me. And we are paying for part of it, meaning it will cost more than if DLJ just went alone. It just feels like no one asks me what I want, and it’s my time and my life that is being decided for me! None of it is intentional in terms of making us pay or anything…but I’m still just overly not pleased. Still, you make do with what you have, and press on, so I am sure it will be a fun trip. But things will be done differently in the future, I can tell you that.

More flying. *Sigh*

I have to fly again in January and maybe again in March. NO MORE after that for over a year. Seriously. I am over my limit and just want to curl up at home and go nowhere.

Flying events, even if they are fun ones, are things I think of as “events to get through.” I like trips and enjoy them, but I would be lying to say each one ends with a sigh of relief at being back home, until I start dreading the next one.

This weekend is busy, I have an intermediate level lampworking glass at Bullseye. Ah, brain expansion. It should be a fun two days.

DLJ is having the last round of his dental work done today, and then we can be done paying for all that. Until next year, of course. There is more work to be done.

I had my first auction of my beads and someone bought them with buy it now within three hours. Nice. Now I get to learn how to do the seller’s part of things, which is good. I am going to try to post one auction a week at least, while I ramp up on how it all works and while I am still working the webmonkey thing.

Not much else to report. I’m tired, mentally. But I will just have to make the best of things, and keep moving forward.

Two for Friday

The first was a happy accident, I will definitely be making these in many more colors! I love how it fused fully on top, but remains apart on the bottom, like ribbon!

Ribbon of Ice

And one for a friend….this design is based on one made by a friend on LJ and in real life, julrosec…. I fell in love with what she did with one of my pendants on silver chain…so here’s my take on it, with her permission. =)

Bundled Copper

plate juggling, but managing (except for dinner)

Lots has been done the past few days.

Made some beads. Made an AWESOME pendant that I plan to repeat, once again, yay universe for those happy accidents that beget beauty! I will have picture tomorrow. It’s simple…but wow.

Sold one bracelet, three necklaces and a pair of earrings this week.

Got signed up to display my work at a local bead store. It’s a rotating thing, so for a couple weeks my stuff will be there. A friend here who makes glass dishes and things to DIE for is going to do it, too! It’s new and small so it’s no big deal, but a good thing all the same. Now I’ll have to talk to them about selling some of my beads and pendants IN the store, next! hehehe.

Dropped the ball on tonight’s dinner, forgot to prep last night for crock pot. Boo.

Mailed off to register my business name. Contacted city to see if there’s anything I need cleared (propane, all that).

I have a small show this weekend, actually, two, a pal is putting some of my stuff on her table, which is very kind. This is why the juiceglass store is not live. I need what inventory I have!

So store goes live Monday. =)

I need to get all the holiday stuff out, it is December 1st, after all. Need to start deep cleaning the house for holidays.

My side web job is about to get a lot bigger. With Thomas doing a small tour in CA in January, and planning to work a lot more on his music (HOW EXCITING IS THIS) it means a lot more website work. We are also going to at least two of the shows to be photographers and content collectors for the site. Crashing at good ol’ amaebi’s. It’s time to see him again, anyway, and our turn to visit his digs. Tour section, photos, info, plus the overhaul we already want to do. I am going to be one busy beaver come the New Year, and I love it.
