Bullet list of stuff:

-More Straws!

Locals, I have a show tomorrow:

Over The Bridge Arts and Crafts Show
Capitol Coffee House and Bistro
6446 SW Capitol Bistro
Portland, OR 97201
503-297-1455

Art Fair
Sunday May, 31st 4:00-8:00

I will have my jewelry and many straws, and the new carrying cases!

-Derek stayed with a sitter today while DLJ and I saw Star Trek. A REAL movie in a REAL theatre! He did great while we were gone and cried and repeated the sitter’s name after she left!

-He sits on the big potty now on one of those potty seats that fits over the normal one and thinks it is great. He’s growing up so fast. So many new words and short phrases.

-I’m hot and want a quick shower, the reading. Final prep for the show tomorrow, tomorrow.

Iphone post

Trying out the wordpress app for my phone. Derek is napping after a fun morning with Elliot at a local cafe. Friends in town are stopping by soon. My kiln is still at a shop and I still don’t know what us wrong. Sucks with a show this weekend at a local cafe!
Ok, how to save and post this …

Dripping…

after a shower, sprawled out on the bed. It has been a lovely weekend, fabulous weather, lots of water, fun, popsicles and lounging around.

And the riding of scooters.

My kiln needed a part and we installed it, but it still has a heating issue. I have one more thing to try, then I just don’t know. I don’t want to buy a  new one, but I will if I have to. I need that kiln NOW for a show in a couple weeks. That’s the only bummer this weekend.

Ok, off to read some NewDream.org and relax. Derek is napping very late today…which is not the greatest, but it makes for a nice late afternoon siesta for Momma.

Also, Momma’s Morning Out alone yesterday was just fab. I have a new Alone Time place. I am definitely going back. Way better than Jade Sauna.

New Store Announcement: The Last Straw – Straws by Carli!

So I have been fiddling in the background and I have a new item to sell. I love my glass, and it’s pretty, and I will still do it. But several years ago I got a bunch of boro glass, which is a lot harder, stiffer, than the Bullseye I usually use. I didn’t have the airpower, firepower, etc., to use it. With the addition of a second oxygen concentrator, I finally could mess around with boro. But I don’t want to make the same things in boro that I do Bullseye. So I decided to be practical.

Reusable Glass Straws

Before you think I am totally strange, boro glass is Pyrex. These straws are very sturdy. Yes, they are glass, and like Pyrex cookware,  you drop it, it might break. But it is less likely to, and under normal usage, like Pyrex, it’s safe for use, for microwave and dishwashing.

Want to know more? I have a lifetime guarantee on my straws, if one ever breaks, tell me, and I will replace it. I also have a handy GLASS STRAW FAQ for you.

There’s more designs coming than just the designer Dot one. I am going to sell one off ones in special colors, and a set of four that I call elements, with a straw each representing earth, air, fire, and water. You can get those separately, of course.

Anyway. These are fun and a great departure for me from the “everyday” of my beads. They are really fun to drink out of, feel better than crappy plastic with who knows what in it, and are just a little touch of elegance and eco-friendliness in today’s world.

Age

I picked up a photo of myself last night at around 8 months.

It goes so fast. It just all goes so fast.

Derek has been sleeping pretty well lately, for him. Which is nice. I still have days when I feel a little tethered, because I have so many hours with him until I get time to myself. Sometimes it is hard to see past that moment.

Someone posted in a community on LJ the other day with a quote that I am going to try to remember when I get nutty and want to be free, more than my time that I have.

“We have a few special years with our children, when they’re the ones that want us around. After that you’re going to be running after them for a bit of attention. It’s so fast Peter. It’s a few years, and it’s over. And you are not being careful. And you are missing it.”

I AM being careful. I just have to remember to keep doing so.

That said, Derek had his first time at the local park and rec daycare without me last week. It was just a half hour, to start. We will go back, maybe tomorrow, not sure. I need to start making it regular, and I  have to remember when his gym class is when it starts this  summer. And then soon the awesome girl up the street will be out of school and available to hang out with him here during the week. Between the two, and looking for a really local friend to swap with here and there, he has a good start in time without Mama.  A few hours a week in total, which is all I want for him at this age,  not even 2. But leaving plenty of time for us to play, so I don’t miss it. I don’t know if I could have been so balanced about it when I was younger. I am really glad I had my 20’s free and clear and all about ME and DLJ and the US. If I hadn’t had that, I don’t know if I would be able to do what I feel is the right thing now. There’s something to be said for being a younger Mom, too. Each has checks and balances, I suppose!

Mom’s Day

It was a really good day today. Last year I was sick, sick, sick for no good reason in bed all day.

Today we were at the coast. Derek had his first in-the-ocean experience and really had a great time! He was cold but didn’t want to leave, but walked up over 50 steps all by himself back to the car.

These two pictures are from the beach:

He just kept pointing out into the water saying “Wow” and “More,” wanting the little waves to come in again. He watched paddle surfers and ran around the beach, until he found the water around his shoes, that is. Then that is all he wanted to do. Ocean boy!

We had a lunch of breads, meat and cheese in the back of the car before we went down the stairs to the beach. Dinner was BBQ from Riptide, just down the street.

More later, my chocolate chip cookies are just out of the oven!

Sun/Rain

The sky doesn’t know what it wants today!

Quick glass porn post before Derek wakes!

I hope to be putting a lot of things on Etsy this week  while I wait for a part to arrive for my poor kiln!

Stuff

Literally. I don’t talk about stuff much, mostly because I try not to aquire it.

But there have been a few things in the past week that will add to my life, so they were worth the cost. And  I haven’t updated anything vaguely substantial lately, have I.

Let’s see. Well, the biggest one is, Friday I ordered myself a new torch.  A Lynx, something I have wanted for about two years now.

t-gttl

I didn’t have the power for it, in terms of oxygen, until I connected two concentrators together. Now, I do. And since I have started doing a little work in boro, it made it timely. Boro can be done on a minor, but it is very slow.

Also, there will be new things I can do with the Lynx in terms of detail, which is great for some long term designs I have been mucking about with.

But the best thing, really…is with a little studio futzing…

I CAN NOW TEACH. I will have two torches, one for me, and one for a student, without having to get up and change places, etc. I am really jazzed about this. I LOVE glass and I LOVE sharing it with people. Now I really can, and they can really take lessons!

The torch should be here Monday. I will have a learning curve as I get used to the new power and heat, but I am really excited.

Second thing, I have been a “free” cel phone user for years, getting whatever phone comes free with a plan.  Last night, after complaining during the day that I can barely hear anyone on my old cel phone, he handed me a working iPhone that he got from a friend! It is a first generation, and hopefully we will get it activated tomorrow. We tried today, but while we were at the mall, the power went out in the entire place, and they got it halfway done over the phone. Being in a mall with no power is really strange! And leaving was really hard, since everyone was leaving, and the traffic lights all around were also out. Anyway, I have never gotten email on a phone, and I admit I have kind of liked that, being unaccessible…but, well, I guess we shall see.

And third, I treated myself to a large bottle of pear cognac. One of my favorite drinks is a kir royal, and with this pear cognac I can make a slight variation drink, champagne and the cognac. I had it at a restaurant last year and really loved it. Booze lasts a LONG time in this house, so this will be a gift I can enjoy all summer on those really hot days, if I have champagne around. I can do it with regular white wine too, but hey. Champagne just elevates it, literally, with those bubbles!

So that’s my recent STUFF. What’s yours?
