Iphone post

Trying out the wordpress app for my phone. Derek is napping after a fun morning with Elliot at a local cafe. Friends in town are stopping by soon. My kiln is still at a shop and I still don’t know what us wrong. Sucks with a show this weekend at a local cafe!
Ok, how to save and post this …

Dripping…

after a shower, sprawled out on the bed. It has been a lovely weekend, fabulous weather, lots of water, fun, popsicles and lounging around.

And the riding of scooters.

My kiln needed a part and we installed it, but it still has a heating issue. I have one more thing to try, then I just don’t know. I don’t want to buy a  new one, but I will if I have to. I need that kiln NOW for a show in a couple weeks. That’s the only bummer this weekend.

Ok, off to read some NewDream.org and relax. Derek is napping very late today…which is not the greatest, but it makes for a nice late afternoon siesta for Momma.

Also, Momma’s Morning Out alone yesterday was just fab. I have a new Alone Time place. I am definitely going back. Way better than Jade Sauna.

Sun/Rain

The sky doesn’t know what it wants today!

Quick glass porn post before Derek wakes!

I hope to be putting a lot of things on Etsy this week  while I wait for a part to arrive for my poor kiln!

Stuff

Literally. I don’t talk about stuff much, mostly because I try not to aquire it.

But there have been a few things in the past week that will add to my life, so they were worth the cost. And  I haven’t updated anything vaguely substantial lately, have I.

Let’s see. Well, the biggest one is, Friday I ordered myself a new torch.  A Lynx, something I have wanted for about two years now.

t-gttl

I didn’t have the power for it, in terms of oxygen, until I connected two concentrators together. Now, I do. And since I have started doing a little work in boro, it made it timely. Boro can be done on a minor, but it is very slow.

Also, there will be new things I can do with the Lynx in terms of detail, which is great for some long term designs I have been mucking about with.

But the best thing, really…is with a little studio futzing…

I CAN NOW TEACH. I will have two torches, one for me, and one for a student, without having to get up and change places, etc. I am really jazzed about this. I LOVE glass and I LOVE sharing it with people. Now I really can, and they can really take lessons!

The torch should be here Monday. I will have a learning curve as I get used to the new power and heat, but I am really excited.

Second thing, I have been a “free” cel phone user for years, getting whatever phone comes free with a plan.  Last night, after complaining during the day that I can barely hear anyone on my old cel phone, he handed me a working iPhone that he got from a friend! It is a first generation, and hopefully we will get it activated tomorrow. We tried today, but while we were at the mall, the power went out in the entire place, and they got it halfway done over the phone. Being in a mall with no power is really strange! And leaving was really hard, since everyone was leaving, and the traffic lights all around were also out. Anyway, I have never gotten email on a phone, and I admit I have kind of liked that, being unaccessible…but, well, I guess we shall see.

And third, I treated myself to a large bottle of pear cognac. One of my favorite drinks is a kir royal, and with this pear cognac I can make a slight variation drink, champagne and the cognac. I had it at a restaurant last year and really loved it. Booze lasts a LONG time in this house, so this will be a gift I can enjoy all summer on those really hot days, if I have champagne around. I can do it with regular white wine too, but hey. Champagne just elevates it, literally, with those bubbles!

So that’s my recent STUFF. What’s yours?

Yesterday was Summer Registration Opening Day for the local park and recs dept. I wanted to get Derek in a gym type class that I have heard excellent reviews on, and a swimming class. The phone lines open at 8, and the web at 10. It felt like buying Def Leppard tickets in the 80’s, redial, redial, redial.

I ended up giving up around 8:30 and waiting till 10, hoping there would be some spots left. I managed to snag a spot in the really good class, there were  only 4 left by the time they opened the web at 10. As soon as I got it in my cart, which reserves it, the website went pretty south as everyone clammored on to try to reserve things that way. I imagined all these moms of preschoolers cursing each other and trying to get spots, along with yoga practitioners, weight lifters, and crazy artists.

But, I got him his spot in the class I had hoped for, and then added a late-summer swimming class. The pools get very crowded in the summer, understandably, so it’s nice to have a month of knowing you will have good pool space at class, at the very least.

Last night DLJ started up the grill for the first time. He made wonderful burgers, mixing the meat with garlic and spices before making the patties. It was really tasty, with roasted potato salad and fruit.

Today is mostly a fun day. Popsicles, planting a few seeds, and DLJ just made homemade french toast, so it’s almost time to eat. I think we will take a bike ride today as well, and who knows what else!

My first boro is done and out of the kiln, I need to take some photos and now I am waiting impatiently for my bigger order to arrive. I just got a few small bits to test with, and I have over 2 pounds of the stuff I won over two years ago at Glass Stock. Speaking of, I got into it again this year, yay! 4 days of glass amazingness at the coast. I am so thrilled. It is a great event and you learn SO much. SO SO much. And have fun!

Demo, demo (i.e., watch Luny play with fire in person.)

I am on the demo schedule at the Glass Gallery this year.

Friday, April 24 at 12:30, and Saturday, April 25 at 3:30. I will be playing with glass at the torch. They always have seats, and I always have a spare pair of special glasses so you can see what I am doing without the glare of the flame.

The show is free at the Convention Center in Portland. Come see lots of work by all sorts of artisans, and in the Oregon Glass Guild section, watch me play with fire! I will make some beads, maybe a frog, hollow beads…who knows!

Brilliant Day

Today was, and still will be, I hope, wonderful.

I spent 2+ hours at a local sauna/spa relaxing, laying around nekkid, sitting in the wet sauna, sweating out toxins, taking showers and splashing with cold water infused with mugwort. It was terrific. Then I went to Powell’s and flipped through a magazine or two before coming home, refreshed. When I have free time, I go to the studio, and it was slowly driving me mad. So today, instead of DLJ and Derek going out, I went out by myself.

Then I came home and did a little work in the studio, and spent the afternoon outside with Derek and DLJ, messing with the garden, and getting the new bike trailer up and running (new inner tubes), and playing with the neighborhood kids up the street.

Now I am making homemade french onion soup, the sun is shining, and I am sure we will all go for an evening walk after dinner. The weather is fabulous, despite being super cold this morning with frost on the deck.

Very, very, VERY good day.

Thursday Thoughts

Lots going on, nothing going on.

I need to pick up a book at the library. It’s all about omega fats. Sounds scintillating, doesn’t it? Today is trash day, so Derek loves standing at the window on his stool and watching all the big green trucks drive around. One driver even flashes his lights at Derek when he sees him on his way back down the cul de sac right across the street.

Today I am figuring out final jewelry display supplies to pick up tomorrow down in Portland, and surfing potty adaptor thingies, as Derek has been wanting to sit on the big potty, and it will be easier on both of us if I don’t have to hold him each time to keep him from falling in. ;)  We will go out for  a walk later with one of his friends, and there will be lunch in there somewhere. Right now he is dancing in circles to Queen. I am looking forward to his nap time today, I just might take a nap myself!

Space Pod

It’s Friday. This weekend is gardening, maybe swimming, DLJ has a cold and so far I have been lucky, so has Derek. We are still healthy.

I hope to get some studio time, as there is not much time left for me before the show in April, since I get only a couple days a week to be in the studio. Derek is napping, and then we are going to a local coffee house to see our old realtor, she owes me a little money for some web work in the hazy past. Plus, it is just good to see her, and she hasn’t seen Derek in over a year.

Then, of course, BSG tonight. It’s the only show I watch regularly at all, so I guess I will be back to nothin’ for shows after this.

Here’s Space Pod, a big focal.
