Yesterday was Summer Registration Opening Day for the local park and recs dept. I wanted to get Derek in a gym type class that I have heard excellent reviews on, and a swimming class. The phone lines open at 8, and the web at 10. It felt like buying Def Leppard tickets in the 80’s, redial, redial, redial.

I ended up giving up around 8:30 and waiting till 10, hoping there would be some spots left. I managed to snag a spot in the really good class, there were  only 4 left by the time they opened the web at 10. As soon as I got it in my cart, which reserves it, the website went pretty south as everyone clammored on to try to reserve things that way. I imagined all these moms of preschoolers cursing each other and trying to get spots, along with yoga practitioners, weight lifters, and crazy artists.

But, I got him his spot in the class I had hoped for, and then added a late-summer swimming class. The pools get very crowded in the summer, understandably, so it’s nice to have a month of knowing you will have good pool space at class, at the very least.

Last night DLJ started up the grill for the first time. He made wonderful burgers, mixing the meat with garlic and spices before making the patties. It was really tasty, with roasted potato salad and fruit.

Today is mostly a fun day. Popsicles, planting a few seeds, and DLJ just made homemade french toast, so it’s almost time to eat. I think we will take a bike ride today as well, and who knows what else!

My first boro is done and out of the kiln, I need to take some photos and now I am waiting impatiently for my bigger order to arrive. I just got a few small bits to test with, and I have over 2 pounds of the stuff I won over two years ago at Glass Stock. Speaking of, I got into it again this year, yay! 4 days of glass amazingness at the coast. I am so thrilled. It is a great event and you learn SO much. SO SO much. And have fun!

Demo, demo (i.e., watch Luny play with fire in person.)

I am on the demo schedule at the Glass Gallery this year.

Friday, April 24 at 12:30, and Saturday, April 25 at 3:30. I will be playing with glass at the torch. They always have seats, and I always have a spare pair of special glasses so you can see what I am doing without the glare of the flame.

The show is free at the Convention Center in Portland. Come see lots of work by all sorts of artisans, and in the Oregon Glass Guild section, watch me play with fire! I will make some beads, maybe a frog, hollow beads…who knows!

Brilliant Day

Today was, and still will be, I hope, wonderful.

I spent 2+ hours at a local sauna/spa relaxing, laying around nekkid, sitting in the wet sauna, sweating out toxins, taking showers and splashing with cold water infused with mugwort. It was terrific. Then I went to Powell’s and flipped through a magazine or two before coming home, refreshed. When I have free time, I go to the studio, and it was slowly driving me mad. So today, instead of DLJ and Derek going out, I went out by myself.

Then I came home and did a little work in the studio, and spent the afternoon outside with Derek and DLJ, messing with the garden, and getting the new bike trailer up and running (new inner tubes), and playing with the neighborhood kids up the street.

Now I am making homemade french onion soup, the sun is shining, and I am sure we will all go for an evening walk after dinner. The weather is fabulous, despite being super cold this morning with frost on the deck.

Very, very, VERY good day.

Thursday Thoughts

Lots going on, nothing going on.

I need to pick up a book at the library. It’s all about omega fats. Sounds scintillating, doesn’t it? Today is trash day, so Derek loves standing at the window on his stool and watching all the big green trucks drive around. One driver even flashes his lights at Derek when he sees him on his way back down the cul de sac right across the street.

Today I am figuring out final jewelry display supplies to pick up tomorrow down in Portland, and surfing potty adaptor thingies, as Derek has been wanting to sit on the big potty, and it will be easier on both of us if I don’t have to hold him each time to keep him from falling in. ;)  We will go out for  a walk later with one of his friends, and there will be lunch in there somewhere. Right now he is dancing in circles to Queen. I am looking forward to his nap time today, I just might take a nap myself!

Space Pod

It’s Friday. This weekend is gardening, maybe swimming, DLJ has a cold and so far I have been lucky, so has Derek. We are still healthy.

I hope to get some studio time, as there is not much time left for me before the show in April, since I get only a couple days a week to be in the studio. Derek is napping, and then we are going to a local coffee house to see our old realtor, she owes me a little money for some web work in the hazy past. Plus, it is just good to see her, and she hasn’t seen Derek in over a year.

Then, of course, BSG tonight. It’s the only show I watch regularly at all, so I guess I will be back to nothin’ for shows after this.

Here’s Space Pod, a big focal.

Good news, straggling House of the Moon readers…

I made a change, and now all entries will be written here and go direct to livejournal, which I couldn’t do before. I was writing over there and missing it over here, but now all is perfect, they can comment over there, and readers at lunesse.com can comment there. So, LJ folks, keep on commenting, I DO read them and am still very active in LJ, just starting the flow of entries somewhere else.

This journal has an RSS feed on livejournal, if you are reading this from there, this feed will go away, there’s no point in double dipping the same entry for readers over there. So friend me on LJ if you only are reading the RSS and want to still see what I am up to, as I will disable the rss feed soon.

Yay!

So, what am I up to?

Derek is a growing, sweet boy. He is walking, running, climbing chairs, begging for cheese, and generally being a mostly good sweetheart. He still isn’t the best sleeper, but more nights than not he makes it from 8 pm to 5:30, where I nurse him, and  he then sleeps till 7:30 or so. I am happy with this schedule, and I still enjoy spending quiet early morning hours with him.

It’s loud outside, some guy who owns a tree service seems to be slicing and dicing his own trees through a chipper. Derek and I had a playdate this afternoon, but it is gone, as that boy has a fever. We have not seen them for  literally months, and it sucks. It’s been a rough winter for sick.

I have a show in April that I am working as hard as I can to be ready for, a show I really enjoy doing. It’s at the Convention Center in Portland and it is free, with all sorts of guilds that make handmade things, metal, weaving, ceramics, woodworking…it is at the end of April so I am running out of time!

More later, on the garden, Let’s see if I can find a recent Derek photo to add… LJ readers have seen this one, but going forward,  no more  overlaps!
